Why? With so many conceptions of strategy, it is little wonder that confusion is more common than clarity. Business consultants and management advisors are as common and their methodologies as diverse as autumn leaves or spring blossom. And for the most part, their "methodology" will withstand scrutiny to about the same extent the leaves and blossom resist the wind. So the first of our strategy frameworks is to extensively use our ears and eyes in fact. But not too much mouth. Our first questions? But the approach is very time and cost efficient. The second is to help you and your managers develop more effective strategic thinking. What do you think are the issues? The opportunities? The questions? The obstacles? External and Internal. That first discussion (or it might be your brief if you are really well organized)will probably create the right short list of tasks, along with a whole lot of items that will resolve themselves through the decisions strategic thinking will lead to. With you, we'll group them and decide how best each should be approached so that the scope is wide enough to get an excellent result but narrow enough to focus on strategy and not the miriad of important tasks that can cloud thinking. This is not a naive process. It is informed by more than 50 strategy frameworks and tools that may be useful. Which of them and when they might be appropriate however, grows out of what your organization needs and not what some management consultants regard as the right "methodology". For example, where branded consumer goods marketing might benefit from "positioning strategy", professional services might be better served by a "resourced based view". Where the industry growth rate is high, innovation my not be as important right now as channels and competitors. If there is uncertainty around the Vision, the use of the "hedgehog" might be a great way to find clarity. Even the language being used here is encouraging strategic thinking, without assuming there is some 'prescription' to the challenges and solutions particular to your organization. Very quickly, your strategy development process will be based on clear, strategic thinking. Importantly, it will be a strategy development process customized to your business and your situation. That's why we don't have a set methodology so much as a large kit of strategy frameworks from which we will choose with you, the right tools for the job. It will draw on and be informed by plenty of experience and use structured and tested approaches for analysis, engagement and decision making. But it will be tailored to you.To find out more about the T | M | G consulting process, you can browse this web site. Download: The Ideal Strategy Conference
